GERD - Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
What is Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) ?
Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a disease that can affect all ages. About 20% of the U.S. population experience some varying degree of GERD according to the National Institute of Health.
Acid reflux is a condition where gastric contents flow upwards into the esophagus. Those that suffer from reflux more than two times a week may have gastroesophageal reflux disease. This is a more serious form of acid reflux and can lead to serious health problems like esophageal inflammation, failure to gain weight, respiratory symptoms, and/or choking.
For younger patients, gastroesophageal reflux disease may also be referred to as pediatric reflux disease.
